About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume is like a big art project. Dreamworks kills me with all their, albeit beautiful, very-hard-to-reproduce textures. To me, it's so much easier to make a costume with clean, neat construction than to recreate something old and weathered. Or covered in a light frost, even!

So although this costume looks and seems easy, I spent countless hours painting the hoodie and pants. The first pair of pants I texturized with spray paint and by splattering fabric paint. I wanted a better result, so the second pair is made of wool that I did a series of splattered bleach effects on. It gives it a leathery look.

My proudest part of this costume is the staff. Made from scratch from two walking sticks, I cut the "hook" pieces on a meter saw and epoxied them together. Then I bondo'd the whole thing to give it it's bark texture. Finally, painted it brown with some snowy effects as well. I don't make props a lot, but when I do I often like them better than the costume itself... X'D

I'm not 100% satisfied with the wig, but it'll do! I may be inclined to try again.
Personal Thoughts:
I had been following Rise of the Guardians for several months before it's release, which for me it not normal. I've never been so obsessed with something before it coming out before. All along I've been intrigued by the interesting takes on familiar characters. Each of the Guardians is so well crafted, like, "you've never a Santa Claus like this before!", etc.

I started making my Jack Frost costume a few months before the movie. I don't really like the idea of cosplaying something before its release. To me, I think "how can you cosplay a character without really knowing them?" But I just knew from the trailers Jack was a character I'd be attached to. (I feel slightly hypocritical, but I officially didn't finish this cosplay until seeing the movie anyway!)

Speaking of seeing the movie... I was lucky enough to win tickets to the premiere in NY, so I got to see the movie about 2 weeks before release day. With how much I was anticipating this movie, I think the gods (or maybe the Guardians ^_~) answered my prayers and let me see the movie early!! This is a very nice memory for me.

As for Jack. He's a carefree, rebellious teen who just wants to have fun without any responsibilities. But deep down he wants to know who he is and why he's here. What's his purpose? What's his past? What's the point if no one believes in him? In short, he's the kind of troubled character that I love...

Also, I love snow so much. So this is so natural for me ;)
