About this Costume
Construction Details:
Hat: Free-handed the pattern and used stabilizer to hold the shape. Buckram would have been better but I didn't have access to any. Needle point canvas would have worked too. There's large gauge wire in the brim and in the tip to make fine shapes. Buckle is laser cut plywood. In the end, I had to fold the back of the hat up otherwise it would have made trouble for the wings.
n
nWings: used part of Stella Chuu's PDF wing pattern but I was in such a hurry, I just made them one solid piece. The black is laser cut plywood and the orange is clear Acrylic with orange acetate backing stuck on with spray adhesive. The harness was a design I came up with on the fly but I would like to make further modifications. In its current iteration, there are straps that go around my arms and under my bust. The wings go into slots that lay flush between my shoulders. There are slits in the bolero that allow thing wings to pass through.
n
nBolero: Modified a blazer pattern and added a mandarin collar. The sleeves were a really completed patchwork to make for that weird face pattern on the arms. The lower gradient parts are 4 layers of organza and the gradient is created by painting it with really watered down orange acrylic paint. The bat pattern on the back is topstitched down.
n
nBodice: Took a prom dress pattern and made a more dramatic sweetheart neckline. A great mistake is that when I was patterning it, I wasn't wearing the corset and push up bra that I was wearing during the real deal so I have a really unfortunate folding at my waist due to the looseness that the corset created.
n
nBelt & Accouterments: I used this for the book https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1450849687/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this for the coin purse base https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0194PXVS4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . The purse was covered in the same fabric from the bodice and bolero and sewn into the belt. The book was covered with the same marine vinyl that I used for the bodice details.
n
nI designed and 3D printed all the little baubles on the costume and you can find those files here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1848547
n
nYellow crotch bits: Poly dupioni burned with the side of a hot knife. The gradient is created by painting it with really watered down orange acrylic paint. Like REALLY watered down.
Personal Thoughts:
I was crazy to try to make this for Kumori Con/ Halloween. This costume was finished in 12 days and I didn't sleep and I neglected my homework so I wouldn't recommend it :(
nIt was pretty ammusing however because I'm already 5'11" and with the hat and shoes I was 7'7" eheheh
