About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume took a total of 6 months to complete with 3 months of research and 3 months of construction. The pieces are all my own patterns or heavily altered commercial patterns. The skirt has six large eagles that are exactly like the game's design embroidered on the panels, which took a total of 60 hours to complete by hand. My favorite part has to be the belt buckle. For that I created a plaster mold of the base buckle and used instamorph to create the piece. I then carved and painted the piece before I adding four mini buckles.
Personal Thoughts:
I absolutely loved every part of the design and construction process of this costume! I wanted to create a piece that expressed my love of video games and history that I could also use as a teaching tool to present women's history and gaming feminism, and this costume represents all these things beautifully. This was the most challenging costume I have created to date, and I can't wait to see where I push myself next.
