About this Costume
Construction Details:
I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching WWII uniforms. I knew off the bat I wasn't capable of making a uniform myself so I wanted to buy one and alter it.
Originally I wanted to do her longer uniform jacket costume (seen in promo images + the scene at the training camp) but I couldn't find any WAC uniforms in my size at the time. Plus all WAC uniforms I was finding were super expensive and I wasn't about to drop big bucks on something I'd need to alter any way.
I ended up settling for a men's cut Eisenhower/Ike jacket in olive green (similar to the one she wears on the battlefield in Europe) and cropping the bottom so it sits higher on my waist. Gold military looking buttons were added and the SSR pins were purchased as a pair on eBay.
Chose to make the skirt out of brown suiting instead of wool because I knew I'd be wearing this in SoCal during the summer, not Europe in the winter.
And if you're wondering the difference between men's and women's jackets: Women's had pleating under the breasts. The coats button up on the opposite side. Decorative flaps on the chest instead of functioning pockets. Boom.
