About this Costume
Construction Details:
Keikana made the actual clothing parts of this costume. The pants are a brocade that we dyed the gradient into, and the hexagon shapes are made from the same fabric as the Mitsunari jacket, applied with Heat 'n' Bond. I stencilled the design on the back of the hoodie, while Keikana applied the trim. The pattern is an iron-on transfer that we sewed on like a patch.

The chainmail sleeve is diving mesh, spraypainted to make it shinier, over a plan black sleeve I cannibalized from another shirt. The shoecovers are fake fur, and the floral pattern comes from the same stencil as the purple on the Mitsunari jacket. The rope comes from 70 feet of red rope I found at Menard's, twisted and secured by yours truly.

The armor is the biggest part of this costume. All of it is craft foam, reinforced with gauze and sealed with mod podge. It was then painted, weathered, and finished with rub 'n' buff, which actually kind of oxidized on the surface which makes a really cool effect. We had to dye some of the lacing ourselves (all the stores around ran out), and there is a lot of it. I referenced a historical armor website to get the lacing to look accurate.
Personal Thoughts:
Finally--this has been done. Gosh. We've spent months and months on these costumes, and at Fanime 2013 we were finally able to wear them. They were a team effort between me and my beloved Keikana, and I honestly couldn't have done this alone.
