About this Costume
- Personal Thoughts:
- While I am a huge Narnia fan, the main reason I wanted to do this costume was for the brigandine (the leather armor). I've been going to more and more renaissance faires recently, and I've always dreamed of being a knight... Well, this was my chance!
We started looking online for a brigandine that would work for Caspian, but after hours of searching we couldn't find anything similar or under a couple hundred dollars. "For that price", I said, "I could make one myself!" So... I did! We found a suede leather jacket at the thrift store, took off the arms, the collar, and fitted it to me. Next we got an entire hide of leather from Tandy Leather, and got to work cutting out squares. We learned about halfway into the project that cutting out uniform squares wasn't the best idea, and so we ended up with lots of left overs... not sure what we're going to do with those yet. After cutting a square, I had to punch two holes into it, then use an awl to make the hole in the vest. Next, I inserted the rivets into the back side, placed the square of leather onto it, and hammered it down. Simple really... lather, rinse, repeat. A couple hundred times...
The rest of the costume was a breeze. We found some really neat celtic horse buttons for the pants (which we thought was cool because he's a Telmarine - and they breed horses). The shirt was made by my Fiance's mom, who is awesome at making renaissance clothing.
That's pretty much it! Hope ya like it.
