About this Costume
Construction Details:
The dress and sleeves are a cotton stretch sateen; I was pretty painstaking about choosing the fabric for her dress because I don't think satin actually works that well for it despite satin brocade being the typical to-to qipao dress fabric. I knew I wanted a fabric with some stretch, because her dress is VERY fitted, but also one that was mostly matte so it wouldn't be gross in photos, and because her dress seems matte to me; and lastly because I wanted the fabric to have some weight to it, so that the crotch and butt flaps would lay properly over the skirt.

I was going to start from the pattern I used for Kagura to make this, but I...lost it LOL. I almost panicked by I managed to find another qipao pattern from Burda and so I redrafted and modified that pattern heavily to make a muslin for this dress before the final piece. Everything in this costume had a muslin first except for the undersleeves.

The skirt is made from a nice cotton poplin, not too heavy but with a good enough weight to stay poofed; this skirt is actually a huge pain in the butt and I cheated on it LOL (because sorry Daisuke, you can't have a circle skirt that poofs like that but doesn't have any gathers in it!) It's pinned and hides its gathers under the dress flaps.

The bracers I am actually kind of disgustingly in love with LOL even though they're just spandex tubes with bias tape and interfacing on the hand parts. I just think they're really cool =x=;;

The wig at Otakon is my oooold old wig by Leelee, new wig is by me with some help from sonteen/red-cluster!
Personal Thoughts:
My waifu ;v; I finally remade it! Jam was the first cosplay I ever made (for... certain embarrassing value of "made" LOL), so I'm so happy to have remade this.

I wore it at Ota ~80% done, without the new wig and a couple other bits that need replacing. Eventually, I'll get pictures of the finished full thing. Eventually....

Styling Notes
This wig is actually TWO of these wigs- one chopped up for the base wig and the other taken apart and wefts harvested for the loop. The can is a Pokka Oolong tea can with the ends cut off and sewn/glued down to the base wig.

The loop is made of 2 long strips of upholstery foam wrapped in masking tape, painted brown and glued together inside the can. It was then layered with a combination of wefts glued down inside the can and wefts glued/hairsprayed over the foam pieces.
Wig Review
Jam's wig is something I am very, VERY picky about- so I'm picking and reworking at this wig until I get it perfectly right. I'm working more from her sprites than the character art for the loop, and her portrait art in XX for the bangs.

As for the basewigs- the color I was iffy about when I first got it in person, but now that I've gotten it in multiple light sources it's definitely the right color. They do tangle as FS's long wigs are known to do, but they fiber looks and feels great, and since none of the wig is hanging down loose the tangling isn't really an issue.
