Construction Details:

I'm not entirely sure what inspired me to cosplay Kairi - I don't overly admire the character and the squeaky princessy voice (I can't believe it's the same actor as Claire in Heroes! :O) so I suppose it must have been the costume that caught my eye for this one. The final keyblade is in it's third remake- and should now be indestructible as the flowers are now made from rubber, not clay. Bouncy bouncy. :D Because Spotlight doesn’t sell two-ended zips in that length and colour, I made the central zip from one long zip, and a little zip flipped upside down at the bottom. I was worried about inserting the eyelets at the top, but actually they were really easy. The under top is a cotton knit with the scallops cut out and interfaced to prevent fraying. The strap is just a rectangle with a hood attached, and the hood was probably the hardest aspect of this costume- the keyblade wasn't hard, just time consuming. (The necklace was the easiest part of the costume – some string and a bead, woot! :D) Everything in this cosplay is self drafted which I'm quite proud of as it was the fourth thing I'd ever sewn. Keyblade wise, it's constructed from wood, washing line for the vine, originally clay for the flowers but it's third incarnation sees 'rubber dubber doo' as the flowers. (Das’s equivalent of model magic) and dowel for the stick part, and some wire for the vines. Painting was a choooore. The handles are MDF based, cut out with a jigsaw with clay added on top for extra depth. The flowers are made with various kitchen utensils to get the different shaped circles, and then cut out symmetrically – I never new math had such a big influence in nature! >_< Everything was attached by cutting a slit in the handle/rod/dowel piece, inserted into this, and then gorilla glued for extra security. Sparklies down the handle are table decorations - you know, those things you scatter on the table for children's birthday parties - and the leaves on the washing line vine are little beads glued on.
