Construction Details:

It took over a course of two weeks working on this costume off and on while making other costumes. (Probably wasn't such a good idea for my sanity to have planned this right after Fanime in time for Anime Expo, hurrhurr.) I made a crapton of ruffles and did a crap ton of satin stitching and appliques. 46 hearts all appliqued onto the dress and sleeves. The dress itself was just a bunch of draping and then sewing it all together to get the right shape and fall. (5 yards of fabric for that) And everything was patterned myself, except for the pannier, that was from a butterick pattern. Why yes, I also made the underwear for the dress, since in illustrations, the dress is shown as not sticking out from the front or back but only sideways, like LouisXVI style gowns (Marie-Antoinette). The sleeves are all trimmed in ribbon. And the headboard is made stiff with a piece of foam-core.
