Construction Details:

The dress and jacket are fully lined and all the patterns are handpainted. The jacket was originally dark red taffeta and the dress fabric was plain red silk shantung with a bit of black silk for the trim and straps. The hat was black felt, painted inside and out. The shoes were originally red patent leather and I sanded off the shiny finish with emery boards before painting them. I estimate all the painting on this costume took a total of 45-50 hours; the dress fabric alone took 25+ hours and the hat was another 10.

Personal Thoughts:

Since watching the series a couple of years back, I always thought it would be fun to do something with all the crazy patterns and I'm really pleased with how this came out. ^_^ Never trying to do a costume with this much handpainting in 5 weeks again though; it seemed simpler when I started but now I think it really should have been a 2 month costume. ._.;
