About this Costume
Construction Details:
The hat was my first foray into using buckram and millinery wire to actually make a hat. There's a lot I'd do different if I had to make it again, but I like how it turned out. The fabric is cotton that I painstakingly dyed the right shade of pink.
n
nThe shawl and dress were simple to construct, but I did put a surprising amount of work into them. The fabric is cotton that, again, I painstakingly dyed to the right shade of pink. I used three different rit dyes! I also went through nearly a whole bottle of fray check making sure the fringe didn't fray everywhere.
n
nThe gloves are made of real leather, and I put them together by hand. The belt is simple brown twill, and the belt buckle is also leather which I dyed gold. The shoes are boot covers I made of white cotton interlock and the same brown twill from the belt. I had to pattern them from scratch.
n
nThe bag I also patterned and constructed myself. It's made of faux suede, and has a hidden "ita" compartment under the flap with a zipper and clear vinyl, so I can display all the Mimi and Palmon-line merch I've amassed over the years, along with my crest of sincerity and prop Digivice.

Palmon is life-sized, two and a half feet tall, and is absolutely the largest plush I've ever constructed. I fully patterned and constructed her in the span of a very crazy week. She is made of fleece and pipe cleaners, and an entire huge bag of stuffing went into her. I love her.
Personal Thoughts:
Mimi wasn't my favorite character from Digimon Adventure the first time I watched the show back when it aired in 1999. She wasn't my favorite character on my second or third watch of the show, grainy episodes recorded from Fox Kids onto VHS tapes. It wasn't until halfway through the second season that I really started to appreciate Mimi, and she's been my favorite character ever since. I always shied away from cosplaying her, though, because in my own words I didn't think I was pretty enough to. I still don't, but I made the cosplay anyway, because I was going to get to meet Ai Maeda in person and I wasn't about to pass up the opportunity. This is possibly my favorite cosplay of all time, and all the positive reactions I've gotten to it are only part of the reason.
