About this Costume
Construction Details:
I made the base white dress from Butterick's B6352 pattern, which I already had from the Omelette costume I made last year, but I modified it so that the zipper is in the back where it is not visible. I also replaced that pattern's sleeves with the ones from McCall's M7627 pattern (dress D) and added a couple of very subtle pockets into the skirt. The M7627 pattern (top A) is also what I used for the kimono-like jacket. I removed the sleeves and adjusted the pattern so that it would be closed via hook and eye rather than a tied sash. (I did make the sash as well, but that was just decorative.) Then I sewed the ribbon trim onto the edge of the jacket in two mirrored rows. I connected the rows by doing a mildly thick embroidery stitch that I think blends them together really nicely.

As for the accessories, the earrings were made by using jewelry wire to attach beads and a dangly pendant to a clip-on back. The hairpin was 3D-printed at my local library using a model I found online (created by tewaiford on Tinkercad). Then I painted it and used a hot glue gun to attach small chains, beads, and wire butterfly antennas. Finally, I painted over it again with a shiny gloss coating.
Personal Thoughts:
I was really impacted by Yona's journey and character development when I read Yona of the Dawn, so when I spotted some pretty trim that reminded me of her outfit, I knew I had to make this cosplay! This was a really fun and comfortable costume to wear. It was also the first cosplay I made that I thought was good enough to enter in a craftsmanship contest. Even though I didn't win anything, it was an interesting new experience.
