Every component of this cosplay except the weapon bases and wig (obviously) were made by me. I based the design and material choices mostly on the anime design rather than the live stageplay design that Moeppi wears.
The jacket and skirt are made from white stretch sateen and a poly-cotton Robert Kaufman brand material that pleated and ironed beautifully. All of the white bias tape on the top was made by me from a poly-cotton blend. The ribbon on the skirt is extra wide garbadine ribbon. The jacket is lined with that said material. I wasn't sure how that would end up working, but it did and served to be VERY comfortable and breathable in 80 degree weather. The skirt is pretty much like every pleated skirt I've made except that I actually sewed down most of the pleats about 3 inches down to help sit on my figure better.
The shoulder jacket is made from a stretch velvet (wrong choice on my part because it couldn't stand under its own weight) and lined with a simple satin. I used a cheap but flashy gold trim on many components of the cosplay that looked a little similar to the live stageplay version of this costume. The bootcovers are suede. Yellow leather was used in the belt, boot covers, epaulettes and other small parts. It was VERY hard to work with despite using my teflon foot and VERY hard to handstitch. Besides the belt, I don't think I will be using that kind of material again, especially because many RS cosplayers used a gold vinyl type material that looked much better in my opinion, but nonetheless it was a good experience.
The button was quickly molded from an existing one from Taobao (off a friend's cosplay) and then casted in Sculpey at the last minute. The wig is a Epic Cosplay Chronos with two short pigtails that I actually made from one long premade pigtail. Then I shaped them into her signature bananas with freeze spray and Mod Podge. The katanas are actually just un-modified Halloween ninja swords... LOL. I didn't get time to do anything special to them before Chara Expo.
Overall, for how fast I made it (over a month and a half between 45-hour work weeks), I was SUPER happy with how it turned out and how it fit on me! I plan to remake and improve many parts of this cosplay for the future. - Personal Thoughts:
- Nana was a really surprising pick for me. I don't normally pick to cosplay blonde, tall, and caring-type characters, but --no spoilers -- I always fall for any character with a tragic yet heroic flaw. I'm still continuing to work on this cosplay for ALA 2019 and beyond because Revue Starlight is a current obsession for me.
