About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Wings: plastic hangers, lots of gorilla tape, 2 bags of turkey feathers, "Goop" glue, car cover paper made of cotton with plastic backing, and elastic band with leftover fabric for the straps. Headdress: with bead thread, mock-pearls, and a lavendar crystal my mom gave me from her store. Shawl: White silk-mesh fabric with several types of beads/sequins sewn into the ends. Skirt: Baby pink satin and pinkish-purple trim from the hem. Top: Modified the straps of a shirt I bought at the mall for 20 bucks with the same fabric used for hem, subtley glitter-glued with silver speckles. Shoes: Powder Pink sandals from my mom's store. Wig: tied in a low-set side ponytail with ribbon made from leftover fabric, bangs separated and put into rollers overnight then gelled into place and stiffness the next morning.
- Personal Thoughts:
- Everything from the outfit to the wings, to the headdress were incredibly (and surprisingly) durable and comfy to wear! The wings were sturdy yet comfy and bounced a bit while I walked -- very fun! For the drive home, I didn't want to take off the wings... and left on the headdress for a while :P This is my 3rd cosplay and the first costume I ever made from scratch and by myself, so as a guide, I followed the infamous Angelicstar's design of her Belldandy costume (along with the 2 reference pics of Belldandy in a white version of this look)... yet tried to make my own version of her idea by adding certain details like the headdress and shawl with different style wings. From here on, I've managed to create a bunch of costumes without using others as inspiration, but I am grateful I found Angelicstar's design as a base for my first sewn costume!
