About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This was the very first cosplay that I ever drafted all of the garment pieces from scratch. It was a challenge that, in retrospect, I could have used more experience with before I attempted, but I think the results were pretty cool. The black stripped fabric was cut into strips so I could offset the stripes vertically in 4 inch sections, and I sewed them back together to make a new fabric to actually cut out my fabric pieces from. That was a challenge for sure. There is also a red layer under the Black stripped layers so it would be visible trough the burn-out stripes. The headpiece is the pride of the costume for me. It's carved from expandable foam and the gold part is made from craft foam covered in worbla, which i primes with wood glue and sanded a minimum if 10 layers. Then hand painted with gold and red acrylic paints. I hand set gold jump rings and Swarovski crystals into the gold metal headpiece as well.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I have a deep love for Star Wars costuming. I had previously made another Queen Amidala gown but it is difficult to get around in it so I decided to make this because it's a lot more mobile and it's still very much a recognizable costume from the Star Wars Series.

- Styling Notes
- I used wefts to wrap around the headpiece and glue them into place, seperate from the Jeannie wig, which I wore under the headpiece. Though it still looks like one big unit.
