Construction Details:

Blouse is based off pattern McCall's M6035 View C with very little modification! It's very accurate to Retoree's top aside from the princess seam placement and the little tab on the center back. White fabric is JoAnn stretch sateen and both the orange and gold are poly poplin. The skirt yoke (waistband) is from Butterick 4686, but I used math to draft out the rest of the skirt. It is a rectangle 3x the width of my hip measurement, box pleated all around. The orange piece over it goes partway around and is knife pleated, but not pressed in, and finished with a rolled hem. It closes with an invisible zipper on the left side.



The bootcovers I made from a coated spandex fabric over a pair of pump shoes. I sewed them and the garter to a pair of dance tights so everything stays put.



My husband and I spent the most time on the bass guitar! He cut the pieces from MDF board. It cuts and sands really nicely, but man it can soak up a lot of primer. I went through multiple cans of primer and ended up having to use liquid primer and sanding it before I could start painting the colors. For some of the details, I wasn't getting the cleanest results with tape and spray paint, so I ended up using vinyl decal sticker paper, and I really like the result! It's nice and glossy too. The strings are actually 50lb fishing wire! No, it doesn't sound like a real bass guitar, but I am not musically inclined, so I couldn't play it anyway. It looks darn cute, though.
