About this Costume
Construction Details:
School. Uniforms. Shouldn't. Be. This. Hard. This cosplay had been on my list since I basically learned what cosplay was. S is my favorite season of Sailor Moon and many of the iconic things that happen with Michiru happen in this uniform. I was pushing it off for the longest time, but my dear friend Heidi Jo- model & cosplayer really wanted to do these uniforms as a fun joke for Holiday Matsuri because theyre red and green aka Christmas colors! So we delved into it. We broke it down in that I did all the contruction and Heidi painted all the plaid. She did this using paint markers and clocked it at about 22 hours to do all the different plaids on mine and her uniforms.
Jackets: I made the jackets using red suiting for the outside and lined them in red cotton sateen. They were both custom drafted - Heidi's to make it an extremely fitted elongated jacket. Mine had to be short and come to a V for the sailor collar. For Heidi's school emblem I had a piece of black linen embroidered and then drafted the star and satin stitched it onto the jacket. For mine, I did the same process for my black star, minus the embroidery, drafted cuffs and the sailor collar and the band of green. I used snap tape to close my jacket and applied buttons on the outside for aesthetic. The bow is using my normal bow making techniques I use for Sailor Fuku's.
Skirt/Pants: For Heidi's pants I modified a 90s style pant pattern to fit her perfect. Making sure that they had the wonderful pleats XD. Theyre green country cotton and lined with green cotton sateen. For my skirt I lined the cotton with suiting, had heidi calculate out the pleats and then did the normal pleating techniques. I then sewed 3 inches down on each pleat to keep them in place. For the yoke I added interfacing and attached it, finishing up with an invisible zipper.
Personal Thoughts:
I waited till I felt I had the skill to take on this costume. The plaid is a very difficult pattern and the jacket is a unique construction.
