About this Costume
Construction Details:
**This is the new update of her default skin. I based the costume MOSTLY on the in-game model and not the splash, as I didn't like how shiny it is in the splash. My machine crapped out while I was sewing Tao, so Akali is 100% hand-sewn (and partially glued). Not sure what the fabric type is (I should probably start paying more attention to that stuff) and the silver trim is made with that annoying fabric that frays really easily. So I had to double it over and glue it to keep it from fraying when I was sewing it on. The entire piece is sewn onto a green leotard for dancing that I bought on eBay as a base and so I'm not completely naked under it. The arm warmers and thigh highs I bought off of eBay. The two belts (middle and underarm) I made after the base was finished. The armor pieces are made from craft foam and worbla that I primed, sanded down, and painted with silver spray paint as a base, and the green is acrylic paint. I used a chocolate brown color (bad idea) in the corners and weathered it with black, both acrylic, and wet paper towels. The armor pieces on the belts attach with velcro and buttons for added security. The shoes are jikatabi that I bought online and attempted to dye with fabric dye, but they don't look that great.
The silver on the forehead piece and the mouth piece are worbla that I also primed, sanded, sprayed with silver paint as a base, and went over it with silver acrylic paint. I carefully hot glued it on since the heat from the glue does make the worbla want to bend and change shape. It kind of did it with the mouth piece, but I didn't want to risk ruining it further by trying to fix it so I left it as is. The mouth piece velcros in the back, and the forehead piece also velcros. I put it on before my wig since you can't see the details of the tie since the ponytail of the wig clips on, so I chose not to make that. The weapons were made with PVC pipe and wood. I picked out the pipe, my dad cut it to size. I made a stencil of the blade in photoshop and printed it, taping pieces together, and my dad used the stencils to cut out the blade from wood and sanded it down on the edges. He used wood in rings and screws to attach it to the PVC pipe. I used worbla at the ends to make the square pieces. I put paper mache over the entire thing, primed it with white spray paint primer, and hand painted the entire thing. I then sealed it with spray sealant. I wrapped faux leather on the handle and glued it with a hot glue gun. I planned to wear this costume, along with Tao, to Fanime 2015 but was really sick while I was there, so I didn't get a chance to wear it. I debuted it at Sac Anime Summer 2015!
Personal Thoughts:
I picked Akali to do along with Taokaka because of the fact that I don't like having braces, and she seemed like the only character simple enough for me being a beginner who has her mouth covered. Plus, I really wanted an excuse to work with worbla for the first time! Honestly, if Marauder Ashe came out BEFORE I planned Akali out, I would have made that instead. :Y

P.S: I did use a wig, but I bought it from eBay for really cheap.
