About this Costume
Construction Details:
We did research to find a good set of peppakura patterns to use (we found them online, of course), and found that a set of patterns had been made specifically for use with EVA foam.
n
nBoth suits were created from the pattern pieces out of the thick floor-mat EVA foam, and held together with hotglue. Husband did most of the underwork/architecture and sizing, and I was in charge of overlays, details, and painting.
n
nTo make smoother pieces, as well as make parts sturdier, I used thin craft foam sheets to create overlays and hot glued those down as well.
n
nUnderneath the suit, we are wearing compression gear usually used for workouts/cheerleading, with associated snaps inset so the armor will "float" on us (also so we don't have to use a ton of clasps)
n
nThe Spike Grenade props were also constructed by me, made from craft foam, pvc pipe, and hot glue. They are currently under reconstruction.
n
nBoth suits are featherlight - and quite mobile, but aren't entirely impact friendly, so some poses are difficult to maintain.
Personal Thoughts:
Long long ago, in a college dorm far away, I found this little show Red vs Blue online, and was enamored. Somehow, someway I lost track of it, until earlier this year Netflix showed me HEY it still existed, AND it's still going.
n
nPlowed through all the seasons, and this show has become near and dear to my heart. So of course, I had to make a costume from it!
n
nWith help from the husband (who also gets his own set of armor too!) we brought Tex and Church to IRL. I have a lot of fun wearing this at conventions, and I doubt it'll stop anytime soon. :)
