About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The leotard itself is made of the backside of a regular spandex knit. It was actually the leftover fabric from adding the detailing to my Condesce suit, and I had plenty because I had to order a yard and only used a few strips previously. I went with a more 1980s high legline and thong back, since I wanted to make this costume as '80s as possible.
The boots are an old pair that I painted, since I ran out of material and couldn't make bootcovers. The green detailing is either painted onto the boot or made of painted craftfoam that I hotglued on.
The armcannon is a cardboard packing tube (4" diameter) that I covered in craft foam, sealed with Mod Podge, and then added more craft foam details to. The entire thing was then sealed in Mod Podge (for a smooth surface), painted with acrylics, and covered in a spray-on clear gloss coat. The light inside is an LED push light that I lightly tinted orange and then glued inside. The inside of the cannon contains a handle. - Personal Thoughts:
- I made this costume quickly while I was sick, in the week before SacAnime Winter 2015. I need to get and style a better wig, but overall, it turned out okay, considering the condition I was in when I made and wore it (the first time). I like Samus as a character quite a bit, and had a lot of fun portraying her. Somehow, I still made a pretty good 1980s sci-fi babe!

- Styling Notes
- I replaced my cheapo Amazon wig with the one I wanted all along -- an Arda Ferrari. Due to the layering in the wig, I was able to get that massive '80s volume in the curls...after a few attempts and trial-and-error of curling, of course.
