Construction Details:

My favorite part of the whole costume was making the hat. I bought a marching band hat off eBay and modified it to match Nonon's by adding furniture foam for the extra height, and then surrounding the whole thing with fabric. rnrnWhen I constructed the costume, I wanted it to be as "marching band" as possible, which directed which fabrics to use. It also led me to decide to use feathers for Nonon's accessories, which was really fun. :) I'm really pleased with how the hat turned out.rnrnOf all the costume bits, I confess that I dragged my feet on making boot covers. I'd never made them before, so I was pretty scared to take the leap and actually do it. I went to costumes before I took the plunge... and they ended up kind of shoddy because I didn't reinforce the tops. But it's a learning experience(!) and in the end, I'm glad I did it, even if it meant months of procrastination for a last-minute flop.
