About this Costume
Construction Details:
*Shirt*
I bought some red spandex and cut a basic tank top shape and I sewed it together. I used a tank top I already own as a guide.

*Pants*
I bought some cobalt blue pants and I sewed the darker navy straps around the hip area of her pants with some extra navy spandex fabric I had. I wanted to stick to as close as her reference as possible, but I couldn't fin the right shade of blue. I definitely want to keep searching for it for the future.

*Gloves*
Yellow spandex that sewed. I traced an outline of my arm and then I sewed the pieces together. It took FOREVER because spandex is super annoying to work with. But I took my time with it.

*Boots*
I bought these suede brown over knew boots and I altered them by cutting out the holes and making the bows out of the the left over spandex fabric I used for my top. I made all 8 bows first and after I cut and sewed all ob the bows, I sewed them all to the boots (4 on each) I tried to keep it consistent as possible. I bought the boots suede because I was hoping to line them with something plastic to keep them up straight. But I couldn't make it work =/ So I settled to wear them as they were, I hate that the still droop down but I'll try again =)

*Hat*
I bought the biggest sun hat I could find, I was going to give it to my mom after I used it anyway so it worked out for me to buy a super large hat. I bought some blue ribbon and I sewed to the top of the hat.

*Wigs*
I bought two wigs from Ebay and I sewed them together. These wigs are insanely long even though they were layered!! Both 60 cm They take so much maintenance, I had to brush my hair and spray conditioning spray every now and again to keep it from getting TOO tangled. Which no matter what it was going to be.

*Axe Bass Guitar*
This took my a couple of weeks to do. I had a blast though!! I never mad a prop like this before so I wanted to take my time. However I made a million mistakes align the way but it's all in good fun and learning XP

So the first thing I figured out was what size I should make this axe bass guitar. Marcy is super tall and lanky and I'm none of those things necessarily so although that huge long guitar is proportionate to Marcy in the show, I needed to figure out what proportions were going to look right for me. I still wanted to make it large because I wanted to stay true to the show and keep it cartoony. After I played around with different Axe & Neck widths and heights I found something I was happy with and I drew it on a piece of newsprint first. and then with a sharpie I traced it over the insulation foam. I cut the neck and the axe separately because it was easier to work with, and they're naturally two different parts. I opted to make the neck thicker than it normally should be because it needed to support the axe portion of the bass guitar. If I made it too thin I feared it might snap. (The axe was 2.5 inches thick, and the neck was a little less than at 1.5 inches thick.)

After I glued both pieces of the guitar together with generous amounts of wood glue. While it dried I made the spike out of smaller pieces of insulation foam, and glued that as well to the bottom of the axe. Once all dry I painted the whole thing with gesso several times. I let it dry in between each layer of gesso I applied. While the gesso was drying I made the guitar pegs by cutting up a quark into four pieces and cutting a wooden dowel into four pieces. I wedged a whole within the quark pieces and put some wood glue in the holes and placed the wooden dowel pieces in them. I also started cut out the silver details that belong on the front of the axe guitar. I spray painted all of those details silver and let them dry. Sanding it all down took forever!!! My arms got so tired !! XP After the sanding process, I got some newspaper to block off the areas of the guitar I wanted red, and I spray painted those areas and I continued this process for all the darker red and the silver parts on the guitar & spike.

I used a drill (but a long nail could also do) to make wholes at the top on the neck to insert the pegs I made. I taped off where I wanted to paint the black 'X' and the lines going down along the neck of the bass guitar and painted those black. I stabbed all the silver round tacks where I wanted and then I glued the silver elastic strings and the bottle caps. Then I was pretty much done. =)
Personal Thoughts:
I've been wanting to cosplay Marceline since FOREVER!!! I love Adventure Time so much and I absolutely love everything about Marcy. She's such a badass with a twisted sense of humor and I just love all of her songs. I was even more hyped to make this cosplay when my two best friends decided to join in with me and do a group cosplay!
