About this Costume
Construction Details:
I originally planned to do a swimmable fin first.

But I actually ended up designing a walkable fin while I was designing the first one last year XDDD Though this one will definitely be walkable It's going to also turn into a fill tail whenever I need it for pictures.

This was my first attempt at drafting my own pattern, and I did mine based on a really great tutorial that I found on Youtube by LittleOrca but I modified the heck out of it to make it walkable.

The tail itself is mostly made out of a mystique spandex that has a subtle hint of sparkle to it. It looks kind of like wet fish scales in the light but I didn't want to do full on scales for this cause I knew I was going to add little embellishments on this thing.

The waist fin was actually kind of tricky cause I wanted it to look similar to Christy Marie's tail because of how accurate the waist fin looked on hers.

I used some minty green bridal satin that I found on ebay. It's such a beautiful color and I love it soooo much XDD I'd totally use it again in more costumes if I could cause I LOVE working with this material. :3

~ I added some iridescent sequin trim to make the little stripes and then added a few flat back pearls on the edge of each stripe. Then added some rounder sequins later.

The shells I currently have for this costume are made from a sturdy plastic that have been painted and bejeweled. It's mounted on a nude strapless bra I bought and modified from ebay

After I debuted this at Anime Conji, I ended up becoming a bit unhappy with the bottom fins. So I gave this tail a major update. I got a new wig since last wore the costume, its nice and long and I loosened the curls to give more volume to the hair.
Personal Thoughts:
I mean who doesn't wanna be a mermaid for a day :) This has to by far be my favorite Ariel costume I've made so far.
