About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
One thing about most Supergirl costumes that bug me are the skirts. Most people make them out of spandex and it just lays so flat. I really wanted to recreate that weightless look that her skirt has while she's flying, which means I couldn't use the traditional thin spandex for the costume.
I went with a thick two-way stretch spandex that is very heavy. The skirt has 3 circle skirts in it with a butt load of horsehair. The top is the same fabric with a more matted gold spandex for the hem. That same gold spandex was used for the trim on the cape, because I'm a crazy person and had to match everything.
In order to make the bias tape out of spandex, I used fusible thin interfacing and base stitched the edges. The spandex was much easier to work with after that and went ahead to sew it to the cape. The cape is mole skin suede because it's my favorite fabric ever. EVER! The 'S' symbol is an iron-on transfer that I printed out.
Boots were painted and I added craft foam to make the gold pieces. The belt was always painted to match the rest of the cold. I already had red briefs from my Sakura (Street Fighter) costume. - Personal Thoughts:
- This costume has been on my list for a while and when a friend of mine made her Supergirl, it was about time I made mine to accompany her.
