About this Costume
Construction Details:
Front lacing choli basically all hand sewn. The skirt is huge knife pleats with pockets set into each pleat to carry my id and money without worrying over a purse and loosing everything. Front side slit in skirt to show off stockings. Hand sewn scalloped lace trim added to the slit for extra fancy. Hand dyed the skirt panels myself - everything was originally fiesta colors (°=°). Used skirt bar and hooks to hold the pockets closed until my ID went flying put of my pocket in a full spin... Replaced the openings with invisible zippers to keep everything safe . Also hand finished the fingerless gloves with a bound catch stitch running elastic through the lace first then wrapping it with thread. Added the chains after I watched other ATS dancers besides Carolina Nericcio. It's been fun yet challenging to make this piece and it'll always have a special place in my heart.
Personal Thoughts:
Originally just a costume to go dance at a club in. Then I actually learned how to belly dance so now I perform in it too! Designed and initially made it in 11th grade in high school. I have been tweaking the design ever since. Finally finished to a point where I love it last year. It's been a labor of love.
