Construction Details:

Although this costume looks deceivingly simple, it was one of the hardest costumes I've built due to the special fabric required. The fabric is a special spandex printed with the Trek delta logo. The construction required special knowledge of working with a Hong Kong type seam finish, spandex binding, matching patterns, and working with bias fabric. I drafted the pattern from screen shots, the licensed dolls, and insider information. I also paired the costume with boots that are second in accuracy to the screen used boots and found the real designer earrings worn by Zoe Saldana.

Personal Thoughts:

I absolutely loved the new Uhura and the costume design of the Star Trek reboot from the moment I saw it. I immediately decided I wanted to remake Lt. Uhura's uniform. At the time this costume was made, the licensed version by Anovos had yet to come out.
