Construction Details:: The school uniforms are lined with hot pink sparkly satin with appliqued "SEME" and "UKE". We made matching appliqued boxers too.
Personal Thoughts:: The tl;dr version: these costumes were made as part of a joke to embarrass our friend, and it worked.

The long version: Mythwear, the company that makes those dumb anime messenger bags, also made a couple of hideous "yaoi dolls". The dolls are dressed in school uniforms and don ninja headbands and yaoi paddles. Their clothes are removable, and they have magnets embedded in their mouths. They have tags that say they're from "Yaoi High", which isn't really anything at all.
Our friend, a convention director, got Mythwear to give out their bags to attendees at some of the cons he runs. With the bags, also came BOXES of these creepy little dolls. For YEARS he attempted to give them away at every possible event - panel prizes, masquerade prizes, volunteer picnics, etc. After all of that (and getting several sets of these dolls ourselves), toward end of 2012, he announced that he had finally gotten rid of all of the dolls. He was really happy about never having to see the dolls again. Too happy. It was brought up as a joke that we should cosplay he dolls and follow him around a convention - and that is exactly what we did. We got a great reaction out of him and many of the other staffers that were plagued by the ridiculous plush magnetic angel boys.

However, to take it one step further, we decided to do a throwback to all of the bad 2004 yaoi crossover masquerade skits we were all forced to suffer through. We entered the convention's masquerade and did a cringe-worthy and badly rehearsed dance to "Gay Bar" that was sure to make everyone watching feel a stinging sense of secondhand embarrassment. It was a success.

Make fun of yourself and have fun doing it. Cosplay is not big deal and we don't take it seriously at all.
