The costume basically took me 5 days to finish. Granted, I did do the gloves after the rest of it, and I guess that took me roughly 6-7 hours, but basically the costume was done in 5 days. I...still am kind of in disbelief on how I did that. But I recently made another costume in the same timeframe, which I will be posting photos of soon so, maybe I'm just getting better and more skilled at this horrible sewing thing?
I used a fanart drawing as my base design. You can see it on my cosplay page over on Facebook. My sister and I are S.K. Cosplay.
The shirt seemed too plain though- there were just two straight silver lines running down it.
So I decided to improve it and make it more Thor-like, and made patterns for myself of the designs after staring at screenshots of his armor.
The silver is a weird silver pleather-like material. I'm not sure what to call it...
And the armor circles are made of real metal. I happen to love working with sheet metal. I'm not great at sculpting, so Sculpey always comes out looking cheap and ugly, and I'd assume Wonderflex would too. And I like the realistic feel using real sheet metal gives me. Cutting perfect circles in metal though- not fun. XD
The wing hairpieces are also sheet metal, attached to hairclips and bent to shape to give a more 3-D effect. Cutting sharp tight inner corners, for where each wing met the next, was also not fun on metal.
The gloves in the drawing I changed too. The drawing had black netting on the top, and I was just like, why? So, I used that silver pleather stuff, and did a quilting type detail after double-layering it. There is a black criss-cross armor-like pattern now embroidered into the silver. If you look at Thor's arms in the movie, his upper arm armor has this pattern to it. Basically a scale mail armor design.
I think that's all I'll focus on, unless someone has specific construction questions. You can always ask, I love to help people!!
