About this Costume
Construction Details:
The dress was made using a pattern from Simplicity, modified, very simple. It only took one night.

The horns were made out of blue insulation foam. I drew a template, cut them out, shaved them and sanded them to be smooth. They were attached to a thin headband that was near invisibile when worn. They were very, very light! Much lighter than the first pair of horns I made the previous year, which we made of super sculpey.

The scythe was a very fun project. I had spent the previous 2 months working on the props for my friends, and only had a week before the convention to make my scythe. I started by vectoring an outline of her scythe using official art references, then cut out two pieces out of blue insulation foam. I glued them together with white school glue, which works shockingly well to hold together large props!! I then carved and sanded it to give it realistic depth, then covered it in mod podge to treat the foam before spray painting it. Treating/covering the foam with some kind of top coat is very important because spray paint burns through foam and would destroy it!
The pipe was just a cheap PVC pipe from Home Depot, heated up with a heat gun and bent the right way.
There was a wooden piece attached at the bottom for durability, but it resulted in my scythe being too tall to pass Anime Expo's weapons policy so I had to break it off at the con ( truly heartbreaking ;___; )
The scythe took a little under a week to make from start to finish.
Personal Thoughts:
I've loved Dead Master ever since Huke's original art, and once the OVA came out I was determined to cosplay it! I cosplayed it for the first time at Anime Expo 2011, but it was pretty lazy and rushed! I had the opportunity to re-vamp the cosplay and wear it again at Anime Expo 2012 with my good friends cosplaying Black Gold Saw and STRength! It was absolutely fun, being one of the first cosplays I made entirely by myself, and I had a blast cosplaying it at such a large con because the amount of attention our costumes got was something I wasn't used to.
