About this Costume
Construction Details:
To start with the simple things, the wig is a wig I had from Cyperous. The gloves were bought online and were taken down and had the fingers cut off. The bracelets were bought and spray painted, and the underwear were bought, dyed, and had the lace taken off. The tattoo I drew myself on photoshop using a compilation of reference images from both the game art and other cosplayers photos. I decided to go with the tattoo from KoF instead of Garou because it was a bit easier and I like the rose over whatever emblem she has in there. The shoes were bought from cosworx. they were originally white and I painted them with Angelus leather paint. The cuffs were made out of craft foam which was painted with the same paint and had a fabric backing attached to the other side. I decided to put hearts on the inside of the cuffs as a homage to HOW TERRIBLE A GAME MAXIMUM IMPACT IS. They attach to the ankle with hooks and eyes. I wanted to make it so the cuffs attached to the back but I didn't really get it to work out. Perhaps that is something I'll work on for next time. The belt is made out of a very thick interfacing and covered with the same fabric I used for the lining in the dress. All the gold bias tape I found was too bright so I painted it myself with fabric paint and attached it. The belt is attached with a hook and eye. The dress was the hardest part about this outfit, I was very scared to start it since I had never made a backless dress before. It turned out being easier then I thought though! The dress is made out of a lightweight knit. The bodice of the dress was made separately off of a combination of a ballroom dancing pattern and a halter dress pattern as I thought having princess seams and darts would make it fit to my body a bit better. The dress is directly attached to the choker and clips on the back of it. The skirt was fairly easy sewing wise, I decided to go with a slated cut where it would attach to the bodice so the belt would cover where they attached. The construction of it was easy and it's lined with a heavier stretch knit that I got on clearance. Painting the skull and line took the longest. I couldn't find a paint that was just a smidge darker then my fabric, nor did mixing my paints do much good so I decided to go with a lighter color. The skull I patterned out myself, traced onto the skirt, and did a straight 5 or 6 hour painting session.
Personal Thoughts:
Oh man! About time I got this done. I've been working on pieces of this costume for about a year and a half now and I'm so glad I finally got it done! I used to play King of Fighters before I got hella into Guilty Gear. I missed the game and one of my friends got me back into playing it and suggested the idea of having our group cosplay from it. I was really flip floppy on what character I wanted to do (THERE ARE SO MANY AMAZING ONES) but I finally decided on B.Jenet. She's fun to play, and who doesn't like a happy, outgoing sexy pirate lady?
