About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Made this around April/May of 2011. I used sateen for the coat and boot covers, a suiting for the skirt, and sateen again for the black inside shirt. Gloves are cut-off evening gloves with black sateen cuffs.
The most trouble I had with this was the ruffles. I used sateen the first time, but because it's a good bit of cotton, they wrinkled and just didn't look right. The second time, I used a polyester. The bottom ruffles were fine, but the ruffles that run down on the front were a nightmare! I had no idea how to lay them down and get them to ruffle the first time. They're much fluffier when I redid the ruffles for Katsucon 2012, but even then placing and pinning it down took a good portion of time. I remade the soul gem, too, after I lost my first one at Otakon 2011.
The first time I made the boot covers, I used a vinyl inside as support. Turns out, though, that that made it way too thick, and so the lower hem would always bulge out or show through. I remade it without the vinyl, and the bottom hem now folds under like it's supposed to. Thankfully, the boot covers still stay up!
While I was redoing the ruffles, I also tried to fit the coat a little more with some darts in the back. Now that I've lost weight again, I wonder if I have to go through all that once more?
I am least satisfied with the gloves and hope to remake them as well one day.
The bow is the only thing I did not make, as my roommate made that for me before I even started constructing this cosplay.
With the spear, the first time I used mostly craft foam with some clay, but it was far too weak yet heavy, and so the top broke off often. The second time, I used wood, and despite being heavier, it was much sturdier! Sadly, I gave it away, but I plan to remake the spear once more for any future conventions. - Personal Thoughts:
- One of my favorite costumes! I feel like my face suits Kyoko very well, so I always know I'll get a nice picture when I wear her.

- I have a rather big head, so this is a bit snug! Thankfully, the ponytail hides any of my hair that shows through at the bottom.
