About this Costume
- Construction Details:

Mamiiiiii ♥! I used poplin for the skirt, moleskin for the corset, hat, and boots, and a white knit for the shirt and armwarmers. For the boots, I bought a pair of cheap cowboy boots and cut off the top part, painted the bottom the yellow color, and then attached the correctly shaped boot tops to the base with hot glue. I spray painted the soles white as well.
The soul gem was cast out of clear resin, then mounted on a craft foam base. The flower petals were made from a sturdy, coated wire from home depot spray painted gold.
DAT WIG. I started with a Leia from Arda Wigs as a base, which is preparted in the back, yay! To shape the curls, I started by creating a base using a couple pieces of wire sandwiched between two pieces of clear packing tape. I then attached the hair to the packing tape base using clear adhesive caulk. Once the curls were dry, I bent them into position and used Got2B Glued hair gel for touch-ups on flyways.
RIFLESSS! Probably my favorite part! I started by creating an in-scale pattern for them based on the official materials book + the Mami figmas. They are made from sheets of craft foam + PVC pipe all attached to a simple styrofoam base. I coated them in resin to give them some extra sturdiness. Since they're almost entirely made of foam, they are super light and easy to pose with! (Bonus: Getting to feel like a total kawaii badass. ♥)
- Personal Thoughts:
- I LOVE MADOKA. SO. MUCH. It's the first anime I've ever watched "live," waiting for each episode as it was released in Japan. It instantly became my favorite anime ever (with the exception of Sailor Moon, which will always hold that title by default ;p), and I talk it up to pretty much anyone that will sit still long enough. SERIOUSLY. GO WATCH IT. :3
Mami's character in particular is very special to me ~ I made this costume a year ago and every time I've worn it I've gone back and made updates and changes to try and do her better justice. I'm finally very happy with my latest rendition! ♥
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- omg this wig! The cliff-notes version is that I created a base for the curl using wire and packing tape, and glued the hair to that using clear adhesive caulk. If you'd like a more in depth version of how I did it, please check out my Drill Curl Tutorial on DA! :3
