About this Costume
Construction Details:
I was very pleased with how the dress came out. It’s fully lined with a boned bodice and an invisible zipper in the side. There’s a small ruffle along the waist. The skirt is six gores with a ruffle on each section, a couple of tucks sewn into each seam line, and a scalloped hem. Trying to screencap it, I found the hem seemed to change every time it was shown so I settled on one where there was a scallop between each pearl strand. There are 24 pink pearl tentacles and they’re detachable so that the weight of the beads isn’t always pulling on the dress when I have it in the closet between cons. (There’s a total of 360 8mm pearls.) I crimped strands of pearls onto lobster clasps and sewed tiny metal rings into the lining of the dress near the hem so I could clip them in.

I actually made two petticoats to go under the dress. The ruffled one is 6 layers and has about 7
yards of tulle and 3 yards of netting in it. I made each layer half an inch shorter than the one under it for the graduated effect and the ruffle on each layer was 9 yards long before gathering. o_o; I originally wore this with a second petticoat underneath but have since made a mini hoopskirt to replace it; with only petticoats, the pearl strands were smooshing them down and making the dress not as poofy as I wanted. The new hoopskirt prevents this and I'm happier with the shape of the skirt now.

For the necklace, I couldn’t find a large rectangular blue gem with a setting so I had to buy a clear gem with a setting and pry it out so I could replace it with a loose blue gem in the same size. The setting also only had two holes in each side so I had to ask my father to drill a couple of extra holes into it for me. After that, stringing the necklace was pretty simple.

I wore this at AnimeNext but ran out of time to make the crown and earrings before the con (and still didn't get them done for Katsucon). ^_^;
Personal Thoughts:
I never thought I'd end up making a costume that involved tentacles! XD

I've wanted to make a ruffly costume for a while but never found one that I really liked for a character I thought I could pull off. When I watched Princess Jellyfish a few months ago, I enjoyed the series and liked Kuranosuke's wackiness so the jellyfish dress seemed like a ruffly costume I could finally do! :-D

Wig Review
I really want to replace this wig. I bought it because it seemed to be about the only curly or wavy lavender wig I could find that was long enough. But the fibers in New Look's party color wigs don't seem nearly as nice as their natural color Eleora wigs. It was a bit thin on top and started frizzing badly with the first wearing. :-/
