About this Costume
Construction Details:
This was, once again, another project for a larger group. A friend of mine really wanted to build Alphonse armor to go with her Edward costume, and somewhere along the way amongst cosplay discussions, we decided it'd be fun to have an FMA group. Sooo, off I went to sew me a Winry costume; and now that that's all said and done I have one thing to say... EASIEST FRIGGIN' COSTUME OF MY LIFE...Well, except for the wig, but OTHER THAN THAT!!! XD Seriously, I sat down in my room with Last Airbender queued up behind me on Netflix and just sewed and BAM, done! :D Really, it was a nice break from other, more complex costumes (coughFaycough). The tank top is made from an off-white jersey (or interlock, I'd need to go back and look again) knit from Joanns. And the skirt is from a black stretch cotton sateen also found at Joanns. The shoes are Italian leather paddock boots found for dirt cheap on ebay (relative to their normal cost). I had been previously looking at regular old lace-up work boots, but then discovered that paddock boots came with the zipper in the front of the shoe, just like Winry's shoes. And being that I do work with horses regularly, they're something that I can actually use outside of cosplay, they were well worth the money in the end. The wig however posed the biggest problem. All-in-all, I think this was an okay job at a ponytail for a wig, though I did sort of ignore adding things like the extra weft in the back...mostly because of a combination of time and impatience and not wanting to spend the additional money. Hopefully I'll be able to go back eventually and correct whatever I can with the wig or just do it all over again. For now, though, I'm pleased with the results. ^_^
