About this Costume
Construction Details:
The leaf hair ornament was hand-stitched around a chenille stem and painted, then attached to a wig clip. The ears were made in a somewhat similar fashion. The tail is basically just an oddly-shaped tube of faux fur that was stuffed with fabric scraps, colored, and sewn onto a really wide piece of waistband elastic. The sandals were an old pair I had lying around that I made strap covers for out of scrap fabric.

The underkimono is made out of a terrible fabric that I kind of want to set on fire. Repeatedly. D: the kimono is made of rayon challis, and all of the leaves are handpainted on. The pattern for both the underkimono and kimono were drafted with some guidance from an old issue of Cosmode, and I made terrible calculations. Both pieces are actually too small, and I blame it on bad translation. D:

The juban is made from yet another fabric I want to set on fire.

The obi is one of my favorite parts of this costume. :D It's actually in three pieces: 1) the main obi, which has 40 pieces of boning for support, and thick interfacing for shaping, 2)the obi bow, which ties onto the main obi using a fake obi ribbon, and 3) the obi cord.
Personal Thoughts:

Styling Notes
First time using wire to style a wig. AAAARGH. Used the hot water method to relax the curls (three times!), then brushed it out once it was dry. Cut some bangs, then brushed everything back into a low ponytail. Twisted the ponytail, ran a wire through it, then bent it into shape. After some hairspray, some choice swear words, and a sleepless night or two, I managed to make this wig behave!
Wig Review
I love Arda Wigs.
