Construction Details:

Kimono - I modified Butterick 6698 to be a little more fitted and to allow for Kongiku's generous proportions. I looked at Japanese maple leaves and stylized them for the appliques on the fabric. There are 16 leaves in total on the sleeves, and an additional 16 on the main body. The veins were added via satin stitch.

Skirt - I modified New Look 6843 (originally it was a miniskirt pattern). There are two darts in the front, four in the back, with a zipper closure and a back center slit for ease of movement. The material was chosen because it was sleek, would not bunch up with the orange of the kimono, and would add very little bulk.

Shoes and socks - My shoes are a bought pair of zori. I painted them black, then covered the thongs with red fabric. My "tabi" are a pair of modified knee-highs white socks.

Ears - The ears are attached to the wig by a headband worn underneath with T-pins sticking up through the wig to slide them onto.

Styling Notes

The wig is in two pieces, a base medium length wig tied back in a ponytail, and a long ponytail claw clip. I used a balsa wood embroidery hoop wrapped in quilt batting, and wrapped the hair from the claw clip along with some extra extensions.
