About this Costume
Construction Details:
For my Ciel costume, I modified a women's suit pattern, and drafted up the bustle by gathering a ton of blue taffeta and gluing ribbon stripes on one at a time with trim glue. All of the ribbon (on the shirt ruffles, bows, and bustle) were glued to the fabric before the actual sewing for clean edges. DAT BUSTLE! also has crinoline stuffed inside, for maximum butt-padded-ness.

I found a bias tape tutorial on DeviantArt since bias tape has always kinda confounded me - basically, I sewed the bias tape onto the edges like a seam and then folded it over and hand-tacked it to the inside so no top-stitching would show.

I modified a women's "Sunday Hat" pattern for the top hat, and used buckram and wire for the understructure, which wasn't nearly as difficult as I was anticipating! Also (not featured in these photos), eventually I made boot covers, which essentially are blue suede 'spats' with scallop button holes (8 on each side), lined and heavily interfaced for stiff-ness.

Ciel's cane is a curtain rod topped with my little 'Skully' made out of a tin foil core surrounded by model magic, and painted with metallic enamel.

I made Matt's Sebastian costume by altering a historical 1860's "Western" suit pattern. The dress shirt has pintucks, and the sleeve and pant hems were all blind-hemmed. The stripes on his vest were glued on in the same manner as DAT BUSTLE!.
Personal Thoughts:
Dat bustle ... dem shorts.

I love this costume, but MAN OH MAN is it a pain to put on and wear. >.< All the layers are kinda bulky and tend to shift around a lot, and the end result is me waddling around making RAEP faces, because that's what Ciel does best, apparently, lol. :3 Oh Ciel.
