About this Costume
Construction Details:
I took a bodysuit and modified it to create the Mandarin collar, which I edged in red braid with a stretch stitch. The cord was also used on the wrists, while the pink hand grips I patterned myself. I hand-sewed the berry branch design on Sango's left breast with individual gold beads and red sequins, and the white clasp is sculpted from firm Sculpty, painted white, and attached using Velcro. The boot covers are black spandex and all of the red sashes are casa satin. Sango 1.0's armor was made from cardboard pieces covered in pink cotton and stuffed with quilting batting. They were edged in white braid and connected to the sashes using snaps. For Sango 2.0, I cut new armor pieces from Worbla. The Worbla was shaped with a heat gun and the body pieces were molded directly onto the bodysuit while I was wearing it for a perfect fit. Strips of Worbla were used to add a raised edge to each piece, which were then spray painted a raspberry color and the edges hand painted using white acrylic. They are attached to the sashes using scrap pieces of Worbla. Finally, the wig is a base black wig with a clip-on ponytail.

For props, the original boomerang was foam board, but for Sango 2.0 my husband shaped a new one out of insulation foam. He coated it in fiberglass, then applied a thin layer of Bondo to smooth it out. It was spray painted cream, and the ends were wrapped in brown fabric with the grips hand-sewn using scrap yellow fabric. The accents are wooden balls with holes drilled through them, painted red and threaded with gold tassels. The boomerang is very lightweight and easy to carry and pose with. It also holds up relatively well to damage. The sword was store bought and then modified with paint and worbla to match Sango's. The Kirara plushie are store bought.
Personal Thoughts:
When I first saw InuYasha, I immediately identified with Sango's character. I didn't care much for her kimono's design, but I loved her demon slayer outfit. I originally made Sango in 2009, and then revamped it in 2014. I absolutely love Sango 2.0!
