About this Costume
Construction Details:
Now, one of my biggest rules in costuming is never dress up from something you aren't familiar with. There are so many characters that have such great designs that it is tempting to just create them, but unless I love that character and have some affinity to her, I can never find myself completing the costume. Well, take all that and you can throw it out the window for this costume. I was cast as Samus for Concept Galaxy's stage show at Realms Con. Since I can never say no to Stephanie, I went ahead and did it, not having played Brawl, or even owning a Wii, or knowing anyone in Alabama who had a Wii. Sure, I loved the original Metroid game when I was a kid, but that was just blips on a screen. I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this! I made a semi-seamless bodysuit (seams only on the back and in the crotch) out of white spandex I had lying around and drafted the style lines on my mannequin. I cut out all the parts I wanted for the dark blue and silver, and created my pattern based on that. I used two different blue shades of matte milliskin spandex and found a very spiffy silver gradient material to use on the inserts. Once again the fiance came to my rescue and painted the emblem on the chest., I still need to go back and have him paint her back piece and emblem on her hand. I thought this project would be more difficult than it was. It took me roughly 6 hours to make entirely. If I were to do it again, I would add more silver on the leg part, but over all, I am happy with how this costume came out. I have since purchased a Wii and aside from Zelda, Samus is my favorite character to play on Brawl!
