Construction Details:

2000 Commentary: Well, I've always loved Fushigi Yuugi. Miaka has always been associated with me for some odd reason...when it first came out in Japan. Perhaps it was her "genki genki" attitude...or maybe because she too is associated with fire. Nonetheless...the first costume I set out to make was Miaka. My auntie and my friend helped me make her costume, for I didn't know how to use a sewing machine. We decided on her school uniform, because we felt that too many people decide to use her miko outfit. Not only that, the school uniform could be worn under a cap and gown. *lol* My friend also dressed up as Yui for graduation and AX. During AX, MIAR cosplayed Yui, Miaka and Nuriko. Basically, we used patterns to create the whole costume. The shirt was bought at a store, but the skirt, jacket, bow tie, and vest were sewn by my auntie and my friend. I helped chose the material as well as cut out the patterns. I sewed part of the skirt. I really liked this costume. Except for the fact that since the material was a bit light, whenever the wind blew in the wrong direction...the skirt would flip up. ^^;; We used a cheerleading pattern to get the pleated effect. I think the costume came out rather nice, it's very comfortable. But if I had the chance, I'd like to redo it because the jacket is really big and I'd also like to make it out of a heavier, lighter colored, material. 2008 Commentary: This will not be the last time I do Fushigi Yuugi Cosplay! I loved this costume so much. My first attempt at cosplay!
