About this Costume
Construction Details:
The dress was made from Burda's B2493 "Josephine" pattern, which was a very nice design that ended up being rather difficult to modify the way I wanted to. (The back of the dress came out super messy, but you can't see it behind the capelet, so that's okay.) I used white and blue satin fabric with metallic gold bias tape for the trim. The gloves are made out of a stretchy knit fabric and did not use a pattern, just an outline of the cosplayer's arms.

The lantern was made by embroidering a green-and-yellow flame design onto a shimmery yellow-green fabric using my local library's embroidery machine. (Libraries are the best!) I then sewed a translucent dark green mesh fabric over it to give it kind of a glassy look. Most of that part was done via sewing machine, but the frame pieces of the lantern were hand sewn. I using a black leather-like cosplay fabric for that, so it was very thick and time-consuming to sew, but gave a good iron-like look. The lantern's handle is a black elastic band so that it can be easily worn as a wristlet.
Personal Thoughts:
My wife wanted to cosplay Ophelia so I made this! It was a fun challenge to adjust the pattern and I am so happy with how this came out. The plush sacred flame lantern was a last-minute addition that ended up working out really well.
