About this Costume
Construction Details:
The cloak was made from black suiting fabric, which was heavier and pricier than was really necessary, but I had it on hand from an abandoned project. The tabard was made from stretchy red knit fabric with an interesting texture. The white "cards" hanging from the bottom were made from scraps of linen left over from my Farah cosplay, with black bias tape for the trim and detail. In fact, most of the details and trim for this costume was made from either bias tape or simple embroidery. The big exception is the trim for the cloak, which was made from a really nice thick red brocade-like trim I found with fancy cosplay tassels sewn on the ends. The flames were made from a cheap satin-like fabric. As for patterns, the cloak was made from McCall's M6818 and the tabard was made from McCalls' M7279. Both were heavily, heavily modified, of course. The headpiece is just a simple cut of craft foam that I painted, glossed, and hot glued to a standard black headband.
Personal Thoughts:
This was probably the most outright complex cosplay I've ever attempted. I did simplify it quite a fit, as the friend who requested this cosplay also requested that I not go too crazy and not definitely include Gaius's abs in the tabard, haha! It still took forever to make, but was super satisfying. My pictures do not convey just how awesome the cloak looks when it moves around as he walks. And with a bit of wind making it all billow out, it just looked epic. As King Gaius should.
