About this Costume
Construction Details:
It was really different working with something other than spandex. I wanted to expand my horizons. I used different textures to keep it royal. Drawing from the live action Cinderella movie I used four different colors of organza/chiffon to create the multicolored skirt/sleeves as seen in the artwork. This created quite a lot of volume to contrast well with the small corseted waist. I made bodice fully boned with steel. I then covered it in velvet. And attached the other pieces (collar, bust). To start I wanted to do a zipper back but I ended up trying a ribbon style corset type closure. I hate it (aesthetically and functionally) and you don't even see it under the wig. The appliques for the cutie marks and the crest didn't go as well either as I wanted. I am really disappointed at how the trailing over skirt went...That I need to redraft and start over. Let me finish rambling by saying, one day I will write a detailed blog about this. Also pony ears (but not horn) were made by the fabulous Rei_Doll of the famous R&R Art Group.
Personal Thoughts:
I really liked Princess Luna overall. Her color scheme and design, as well as her personality and past. Actually really similar to another favorite character of mine (*cough-cough* Raven). However I never really had seen a human interpretation (cosplay or art) that I liked. I also didn't have any ideas either. Until I came across Blatterbury's design (I had a heck of time tracing back to the original artist btw, screw you pintrest). It was perfect. I had to do it. I should mention that I haven't finished Luna as of yet and I was far from happy with some key pieces. It is defiantly something I want to go back and finish.
