About this Costume
Construction Details:
My Inuyasha build was my first costume that I built from scratch, with a minimal of prepurchased parts. (the only part I bought premade were the ears. They are made by Noxhyde from Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/noxhyde ) Tessaiga, Robe of the Fire Rat, and Beads of Subjugation were all crafted by me. I did the wig styling myself, and ear attachment.

While I did the bulk of the work on the beads and Tessaiga myself, I was guided and taught the processes for working the materials, but let alone to do the vast majority of the work while being supervised during power tool usage.

The Beads of Subjugation were the first part of the costume. I made masters for the magatama and the rounds out of polymer clay. Original Sculpy, to be exact. I then brought my masters over to my friends house, who guided me through the mould making process. He advised, and taught me how to mix, told me how to pour, but let me do the work.

Tessaiga was a similar experience. I was taught how to use the tools, and turned loose. My friend offered extra hands when needed, and strength for lifting heavy things to set on the foam to glue it together.

The Robe of the Fire Rat took the bulk of the time. I drafted my own pattern from scratch after researching clothing from the approximate era the garb may have been intended to come from. The white underneath the outer robe is a hanjuban, and is not just white bits sewn in. It is a complete piece in its own right. This adds authenticity to the movement and layers of the costume.
Personal Thoughts:
This costume was built with the costume competition as my ultimate goal. I had my husband and a friend -who regularly critiques costumes- check my work and point out areas where I could do better as I went.
