About this Costume
Construction Details:
nMade from a 4 way stretch fuchsia metallic spandex, I made the base bathing suit style suit, only with long sleeves. I cut the deep V neck very small and kept trying it on to make sure it wasn???t too big and it actually stayed modest to keep portions covered. I then encased elastic along the opening of the front. This helps keep it in place and not go all warped while wearing it. A clear piece of vinyl sits just below the bust to keep the bodysuit in place.
nThe Star on the bodysuit is made of silver vinyl, top stitched on.
nBoot Covers & Gloves:
nThe boot covers are made the same way I make all other hero boot covers, made to go over the same shoe (that I use for all my heel boot covers!) The tops are sewn directly into a pair of dancer tights. This makes sure the boots stay in place and are pulled taut so they have that smooth finish with minimal creases.
nThe gloves are elbow length gloves I sewed. The edges of the gloves hide quite well against the arms.
nThe collar is made of a white matte satin. I used heavy weight interfacing as well as pink craft foam underneath. This creates a slight pink hue, almost adding to the effect that my pink suit is glowing.
nThe front of the collar does up via hook and snap.
nMask & Earrings:
nThe face mask was cut from 1/4 inch thick interfacing, and then I traced that onto the pink spandex. I added a small seam allowance then sewed the entire edge up. Turned the spandex inside out and carefully pulled the spandex over the interfacing. I added elastic to each side and that goes behind my head to keep the mask on. I added a star rhinestone to the forehead.
nHe earrings were made of some random acrylic gems I had in my loose jewelry bin and then looped onto clip on earring posts.
nThe wig is one I had already, a long black layered wig, looks to be a New Look Alicia XL wig in 1b.
nI tied the wig up in a small ponytail then added a small clip under the ponytail to boost the pony up a bit. I thought the wig suited comic book Carol quite a bit and I really like the pink/black contrast.
Personal Thoughts:
I never thought I???d make this outfit because 1. I???m not really a big fan of Green Lantern and 2. The nature of the costume is impractical and ridiculously revealing.
nI decided to go ahead and make it when my friend London Batman wanted me to commission him a Hal Jordan Green lantern costume, then his friend wanted a Kilowog, then they asked if I would make a costume from the series. I do have plans to make Arisia, but I had the pink metallic fabric that matched the green metallic I made their costumes from, so I thought, what the heck, why not. Despite the nature of the costume, it actually posed some serious challenges. While I didn???t really follow a concrete design of Carol???s here, I did my own spin on the character, much like I do with a lot of my comic character cosplays, I combined elements of each design to create 1 design I was happy with.
