I'll start from the inside top and work my way out. The turtleneck was bought--yay, easy! The grey vest was weird to pattern out--Ven's vest doesn't actually have side seams, so I had to make sure to pattern it with only a back seam. I patterned heat 'n' bond using the same cream-colored vinyl that would later be used in the jacket and pants, ironed it on, and then sealed every edge with folded-over white vinyl trim. I machine-sewed a buttonhole. The jacket was an interesting challenge--first, I had to pattern and attach pockets to each front panel, then cut the panel and sandwich in white piping. I also had to split the back panel down the center (since it's half cream, half black) before adding white piping. Once everything was together, I cut red lining and self-patterned a collar out of the vinyl and red ribbed fabric. It was at this point I also sandwiched in the zipper. After that, I added the white vinyl trim wherever necessary and added sleeves.
The pants were pretty easy. I self-patterned the jeans pockets and didn't bother with a fly since it would be hidden under the armor. After topstitching the light khaki part, I did the bottom two tiers of color all in one piece with the seams pointing toward the center. I added elastic at the bottom to make sure they'd 'pouf' around Steph's legs.
The armor was actually not as bad as I thought. I had to do some heavy thinking with EVA foam and got very good at figuring out how to cut at an angle to accomplish the bevels, and then used worbla to finish every piece off. The shoulder piece has caulk saver as the method of the 'rounded' edging, which I'm so relieved worked! I molded the button on the shoulder armor off an espresso cup saucer; the rest was hand-patterned. After everything was ready, I added 4 layers of gesso, spray painted, and dry-brushed on some aging (I left the Worbla texture intact since the KH renders show the armor as being sort of rough and textured).
The shoes were a bit of a challenge. Originally, I wanted to create the exaggerated soles and tips out of foam, but realized that she would not be able to bend her foot. So, i used very thick fabric piping instead. The ankle crowns and back pieces are made of foam and worbla.
I made the wristband with the two jacket vinyls and heat'n'bond. The keyblade was made by Jason/CeruleanDraco! - Personal Thoughts:
- Made this for Skwinky!!
