About this Costume
Construction Details:
Circle capes give me trouble even though I understand the math and concept perfectly?? My issue with this one was that I didn't want to have a very full cape because Wirt's silhouette isn't very flowy. So although I initially was gonna do a 3/4 cape, I opt for a 1/2 circle which was a big mistake. 1/2 circle is fine for capes that drape along the back, but I learned very quickly that it just does not create enough fabric to hang over the shoulders and fully close in the front. I had to recut the fabric of the lining, and learned to never do that again. In the end, the cape is 5/8 circle, which was enough to have it close in the front. The pants were made from scratch. With my new serger, I made them as real and professional as I could! It felt good. The hat contains poster board and craft foam covered in fabric. The suspenders were made from elastic.
Personal Thoughts:
This was definitely one of those times when I had a delayed reaction, like "Was I fooling myself, why am I yet planning this costume yet??" because Wirt is such a character type that I like and cosplay. The series is something I really enjoyed and has that whimsical child-like quality that I appreciate so much. Fun and emotional. I'm just not thrilled with how it ended, but that's a different story, lol. My cosplay buddy, Bluucircles, surprised me (aka. tricked me) when she revealed she had secretly made a Beatrice costume! I'm very glad she had planned to do so and we were able to cosplay them together~
