About this Costume
Construction Details:
the entire costume is made of this gorgeous cotton sateen that has a lovely amount of stretch to it. i usually wouldn't use stretch for a seifuku but she's not wearing a seifuku really so. the shirt is a basic seifuku top that i made a bit shorter than usual, sailor collar and all. i used twill tape but in retrospect i would have used plain old bias tape. ah well. i made a half circle skirt pattern and used it to create a full circle, and then i added on twill tape bc i was stupid and totally forgot she had trim on her skirt. going back it's super important to sew on trim before sewing the skirt side seams. i used a big floofy petticoat so my skirt was really huge most of the con. i bought a hat at party city, stripped it, stuffed fluff and wire into it, and then sewed on fabric (the same fabric as the rest of the costume.) due to thread complications, i hot glued the white lining on- but it gave it this really nice gathered effect and was super easy. after months of searching i found the perfect ribbon and made her ribbons for her hair and her hat- i originally tried to paint a bunch of white cotton red and blue on the sides but that inevitably failed completely. all in all, pretty self explanatory.
Personal Thoughts:
this costume was a whirlwind to get through but i'm overall pretty pleased with it and i'd like to wear it again AND HAVE A SAMEKICHI....... one day i'll have a samekichi....
