About this Costume
Construction Details:
I made the skirt based on a regular long A-line skirt pattern. It made the skirt a little smaller than it could have been, but it was also the easiest pattern to throw together. The tabbard was a pretty big challenge. I couldn’t find a real pattern online, so I had to sort of do some guesswork to figure out the way it should be cut. I wasn’t super familiar with how to make it fitted around my chest, so it came out a little baggy. The pattern was painted on with fabric glue, which was easy with a small and sturdy brush.

The shoulder armor and links were made with paper mache with a large 21” balloon as a base. I covered it in paper clay, sanded it down, and added more to decrease the number of lumps and bumps. I gave it a glaze of mod podge once that was set, and painted it gold. The links were pretty much the same, except I used craft foam as a base. (Which, in hindsight, was a horrible idea! it took FOREVER to dry!) Parts of the belt and the crown were made with varying layers of craft foam and gold paint.
Personal Thoughts:
This was my biggest costume I’ve tackled! It was definitely intimidating for a new cosplayer like me, so I had to make sure I went in knowing what I was doing. I broke it down into pieces I needed to make: skirt, tabbard, belt, shoulder armor, cape, and crown.
