Construction Details:

The coat and harness themselves are fairly straightforward. I modified a lady's winter coat pattern for this, split the back seam, and lined the inside with a gray polyester. The collar is actually held closed with 2 hooks and eyes, as the button itself has a tendency to come loose.

The harness is actually heavily modified from a jacket I bought at the thrift store. I cut one side away and used the extra to make the harness straps. The gourd is two beach balls covered in paper mache.

The hardest part is hanging the gourd. In the anime/manga, the gourd hangs from a single loop at the back of the harness, but apparently they haven't heard of gravity in Naruto. I ended up wrapping the straps around the gourd middle, hanging it from my left shoulder under the harness and tying the straps in a tight knot, then wrapping the rest around my hips.

I covered my eyebrows using several coats of Elmer's purple gluestick, then concealer and heavy foundation and powder. The black rings were drawn on with an eyeliner marker and then filled in with black powder.
